When I was a senior in high school, I went to a palm reader once. I usually don't believe in that crap, but I'll never forget what she told me. She looked at my hands and said, "Whatever you choose to do in life, be sure it includes art. I sense it is your passion, and it makes you truly happy."
I've always loved both logic and creativity; mostly due to the influence of my parents. My dad is an engineer, loves doing Sudoku puzzles, and working on muscle cars. My mom likes to sew, design t-shirts, fold origami, and play taiko. Heck, even my two favorite subjects in school were math and art. I used to think I had a split-personality.
So the reason why I'll never forget that palm reader told me, is because I chose to major in Civil Engineering. Instead of studying color, visual elements and communication, I learn about steel, dirt, pipes, and construction all day. For the longest time, I was stuck between choosing Architecture or Civil Engineering. Finally, I settled for what I thought would keep me interested for the rest of my life (and would keep food on the table, too.)
What I'm getting at is, deviantART is such a great outlet for me. Sometimes when I come home from a long day at school and just need to zone out, browsing through DA really picks me up. I still can't believe how much talent there is out there, and how people have time to create such beautiful art, yet maintain a 9-5 job. I'd like to say thanks to all of the talented artists that I watch/favorite-ed, because all of it keeps me inspired to never lose sight of my artistic side.. no matter how dorky of an engineer I become.
So the moral of the story is: Don't listen to palm readers.
- Mood:
Cheerful - Listening to: Radiohead
- Reading: Fluid Mechanics textbook. hahaha.
- Eating: kim chee!
- Drinking: water
